Scientists from the University of Tartu have developed a vaccine against a dangerous tropical disease, which has received approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration. This marks the first vaccine made in Estonia to be used among people. Several vaccines designed in Estonia have reached clinical trials, but none had successfully passed until now. The world's first Chikungunya virus vaccine was created by virologist Andres Merits alongside former University of Tartu virologists Aleksei and Valeria Lulla, who now live and work in Cambridge, England, with Valeria leading her own laboratory.
